Old Man Winter refuses to loosen his grasp, but we continue to edge closer to spring.  We experienced a couple days of 60 degree weather, which was followed by snow!  Our shop remodel is now complete, and the iron rack, shelving and hose reels were put back together over the weekend.  Currently, Dennis is finishing the corn planter… replacing the starter fertilizer shoes and Keaton seed firmers.  Craig, Blake and Grant are finalizing the fuel trailer modifications… mounting the air compressor, tool boxes, welder/generator, lighting and decals.  Once the trailer is complete, the focus will shift to installing a talc/graphite applicator on the soybean seed tender.  An applicator was installed on the corn tender last winter, and we felt the system was a great addition.  The talc/graphite is applied much cleaner and evenly through the metering system.  Dan has continued to haul lime to sites, and will switch to rock if ground conditions change.

We began taking delivery of seed this week, which means spring is definitely headed our way!  Additional projects include incorporating the new scale and mixing tub into our chemical containment.  In the past, chemicals from mini bulk tanks have been metered into a smaller mixing tub, then incorporated in a tanker.  The new system will utilize a scale and much larger mixing tub for measurement in pounds, not gallons.  The scale, induction system and stainless mixing tub are currently “mocked up” in the shop and will be moved once weather improves.
