9/16/13: Harvest has Arrived!

Harvest has offically arrived for the 2013 season!  We began harvesting corn in nothern Macon County, and yeilds have been promising considering the adverse weather conditions throughout the growing season.  The corn in that particular area has not received beneficial rainfall since mid-July, and we were concerned regarding the heat/lack of rainfall’s correlation to end yield.  We planted a shorter-season corn hybrid in spring with hopes of capitalizing on the price premium associated with lack of supply due to the drought of 2012.  With our early contract filled, we have suspended field operations until the remaining corn naturally dries in the field.  Current farm activities included hauling 28% liquid fertilizer into our storage, hauling lime to field sites, preparing grain bins for operation, mowing roadsides and finishing out the custom seeding contracts for 2013.
