Spring has officially arrived… and a foot of snow followed on its footsteps. The past weeks have allowed us to make great strides in preparing for spring field operations, but also attend meetings and trade shows in Orlando, Louisville and Washington D.C. Dennis had the opportunity to attend the National Farm Machinery show in KY, and Grant attended the National Corn Growers Assoc annual meeting in Orlando and then spent time with the organization in DC. Much of our time has been attending to projects in the shop. The corn planter is now ready for the field…. as soon as the snow melts and the ground warms up! We wrapped up the Precision Planting AirForce system installation and the wiring harness and brackets have been installed for utilizing an iPad in the cab. Time was also spent assembling the seeder purchased for planting CRP waterway and buffer strips. When the weather is fit, we plan to reshape and seed waterways that will be re-enrolled in government programs. Installing a mounting and plumbling system on our tanker has
also been completed. During spring spraying and liquid sidedressing, we will utilize the tanker for nursing the field operation. While we were in the business, we dismantled and rebuilt the plumbing for the starter fertilizer nurse system too. This system is mounted on the trailer that brings
starter to the planter in the field. Currently, we are finalizing the construction of our liquid induction system for the bulk fertilizer containment at Duane’s. Fortunately, we have been able to incorporate the new flow meter into a retro-fitted system Dennis built 15 years ago! Re-use and re-cycle! The system will allow us to mix herbicide with the 28 or 32% solution and incorporate zinc into our starter fertilizer. Never a dull moment! Seed,
herbicide and zinc have begun to arrive… Spring is just around the corner!
